Like Kumon, but for code

Real Python coding, virtual classes across Australia

Founder featured in

Aubot Academy is an individualised coding program for kids - like KUMON, but for computer science. The curriculum was built over 5.5 years with 275 university computer science students and educators. The same self-paced methodology has been used by nearly 9,000 students in schools across Australia, California, Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Fiji.

Most coding programs stop at the basics. Ours doesn't - your child moves from Python into Java (AP Computer Science A) and university-level algorithms and data structures, so they never outgrow it.

Now live online, with a live instructor. Your child works through real Python exercises at their own pace, with an instructor right there to help.

From our Parents, Teachers and Students

He had a big smile on his face. He loved it!

Parent of a 9-year-old
Brisbane, Australia

When we ask him which class he likes the most. He says Python. Everyday, he does at least 2 classes per day of activities - swimming, chess, judo, piano. But this is his favorite.

Parent of an 8-year-old
Redwood Shores, CA

I was impressed by the length and the depth of knowledge that was delivered and how patient the instructor was.

Parent of a 9-year-old
Belmont, CA

All the instructors, students and teachers were extremely kind and very easy to work with. They tried their best to be helpful and supportive and overall created an amazing, educational and fun program.

The younger students have been talking about how much they loved it since last week.

Summerdale Primary School
Tasmania, Australia

A well developed and thought out website! Will use it again for my primary school students.

Nhulunbuy Primary School
Northern Territory, Australia

They're learning! There's 4 girls and one boy and the boy is so enthusiastic he actually runs around celebrating when he gets one right! He was shimmying around

Kilohana Primary School
Hawaii, USA

All eleven students (ages 8-12) gave you a 10/10. One student gave you one million out of 10!

Moulden Park Primary School
Northern Territory, Australia

My kids loved it! Even the ones I thought would feel overwhelmed figured it out.

Makawao Elementary School
Hawaii, USA

That was so much fun mister! Can we get our log ins so we can do more?

Student, Beachlands Primary School
Western Australia, Australia

Two girls came up to me and said, “Coding is awesome!!!!!!!”

Bluff Point Primary School
Western Australia, Australia

My experienced coders loved helping their classmates, and two students who had never coded before were among the first to complete all the exercises, so very effective teaching/program!

Kihei Elementary School
Hawaii, USA

This is really complicated!  This is real programming!

"I wish I had this when I was ten"

I'm Marita Cheng. I founded Robogals, which has taught robotics to more than 200,000 students, and the robotics company Aubot.

After 12 years of seeing kids fall in love with coding and have nowhere to go next, in 2020 I started building the program I wished existed.

How it works
1. Your first class is free

Your child sits down, logs in and starts writing real Python, with an instructor right there to help. No lecture, no setup.

2. One 45-minute class a week

With an instructor live online, after school Monday - Friday or on Saturday mornings (Melbourne time). You'll get regular updates on what they worked on and what's next.

3. Keep practising at home

Our platform is available 24/7, so your child can keep going between classes. Kids who practise at home move faster. Finish all your assigned exercises?  Just ask your instructor for more.

All they need is a laptop:

Mac, Windows, or Chromebook.

The Curriculum

From their first line of code to university-level computer science

Your child starts with Python, the language AI researchers use to build AI. Next comes Java, the language of AP Computer Science A, then the algorithms and data structures taught in university computer science courses. Every level builds on the one before, so there's always a next step.

See the full Curriculum here.

With Artificial Intelligence - do we still need to know how to code?

It's the question every parent is asking - so here's our answer: AI doesn't replace people who understand code. It multiplies them.

Someone still has to decide what to build, check whether the AI got it right, and fix it when it doesn't. Calculators didn't end maths, and Kumon still teaches 4 million children arithmetic. Children who understand how computers think will be the ones directing AI.

A review of 105 studies, published in the Journal of Educational Psychology, found that learning to program measurably improved other thinking skills, with the clearest gains in creative thinking, mathematical skills and metacognition (thinking about your own thinking).

On average, the gain was enough to move a student from the middle of a group into the top third (Scherer, Siddiq & Sánchez Viveros, 2019). An earlier review of 65 studies found the same pattern (Liao & Bright, 1991).

Calendar

In Python 1, students learn:  Data Types, Variables, If Statements, While Loops, Debugging, For Loops, Strings. (Takes around 3-4 months).

In Python 2, students learn:  Functions, Lists, Tuples, Sets, Dictionaries. (Takes around 3-4 months).

In Python 3, students learn:  Files, Classes, Modules, Exceptions, Recursive Functions, List/ Set/ Dictionary Comprehension, Advanced Debugging. (Takes around 3-4 months).

Every child moves at their own pace, and kids who practice at home move faster.

These are our usual class times - but we usually have space for 2-3 more students per class.
